IRB Board members made a benchmarking visit to the Nordic Energy Sector -  the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), Nord Pool, the Norwegian Transmission System Operator (Statnett), Hydro REIN and the Vamma Hydropower Plant from 26th to the 31st of May 2024.

The benchmarking study visits were conducted by a delegation of IRB board members led by the Chairperson of IRB and Chief Executive Officer of Electricity Regulatory Authority, (ERA) of the Republic of Uganda, Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako.

The study delegation consisted Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) of Uganda, the Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) of Egypt, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) of  Kenya, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Djibouti, the Ministry of Energy and Dams of South Sudan and the IRB Secretariat.

The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) financed the study visit to the Nordic Energy Sector. The IRB Board and the Secretariat would like to use this opportunity to thank Norad for funding the study visit, which assisted members in gaining experience in the areas of electricity market and regulation. The lessons learned will equip board members with the knowledge needed to effectively lead the full operationalization process of the IRB.
